Instruments used in Irish Music: harp, flute, fiddle (violin), uilleann pipes (bagpipes)

Along with drastic changes to the music, many of the instruments used in pre-history through the Medieval Period have changed and most have become unknown. Virtually all of the instruments now considered standards in Irish Music have been introduced since the 17th century –including even the uilleann pipes. Most instruments, including flute, pennywhistle, banjo, accordion, melodeon, harmonica, mandolin, and guitar, have only been used widely in Irish music since the 19th or 20th century.
