Irish Banjo
Minstrel show performers introduced the 5-string banjo to Irish musical instruments in the 19th century. By the 20th century, the 4-string tenor banjo had become to preferred instrument, and many traditional Irish musicians used it for accompaniment.
While the tenor banjo is tuned CGDA, Irish musicians usually use heavier strings and tune to GDAE.
