Seven Drunken Nights
I came home on a Monday night
As drunk as drunk could be
And I saw a horse tied to the post
Where my old horse should be
So, I called me wife and I said to her (Hey, Wife!)
Would you kindly tell to me
Who's horse is that tied to the post
Where my old horse should be
Well, you're drunk, you're drunk, you silly old fool
Still you cannot see
For that's the beautiful sow
That me mother sent to me
Well, many's the time I've travelled a hundred miles or more
But a sow wearin' a saddle, sure I never saw before
I came home on a Tuesday night
As drunk as drunk could be
And I saw a coat upon the hook
Where my old coat should be
So, I called me wife and I said to her (Hey, Wife!)
Would you kindly tell to me
Who's coat is that upon the hook
Where my old coat should be
Well, you're drunk, you're drunk, you silly old fool
Still you cannot see
For that's the beautiful blanket
That me mother sent to me
Well, many's the time I've travelled a hundred miles or more
But a blanket made with buttons, sure I never saw before
I came home on a Wednesday night
As drunk as drunk could be
And I saw a pipe upon the chair
Where my old pipe should be
So, I called me wife and I said to her (Hey, Wife!)
Would you kindly tell to me
Who's pipe is that upon the chair
Where my old pipe should be
Well, you're drunk, you're drunk, you silly old fool
Still you cannot see
For that's the beautiful tinwhistle
That me mother sent to me
Well, many's the time I've travelled a hundred miles or more
But a tinwhistle full of tobacco, sure I never saw before
I came home on a Thursday night
As drunk as drunk could be
And I saw some boots beneath the bed
Where my old boots should be
So, I called me wife and I said to her (Hey, Wife!)
Would you kindly tell to me
Who's boots are those beneath the bed
Where my old boots should be
Well, you're drunk, you're drunk, you silly old fool
Still you cannot see
For those are the beautiful geranium pots
That me mother sent to me
Well, many's the time I've travelled a hundred miles or more
But geranium pots with laces, sure I never saw before
I came home on a Friday night
As drunk as drunk could be
And I saw some pants upon the bed
Where my old pants should be
So, I called me wife and I said to her (Hey, Wife!)
Would you kindly tell to me
Who's pants are those upon the bed
Where my old pants should be
Well, you're drunk, you're drunk, you silly old fool
Still you cannot see
For that's the beautiful comforter
That me mother sent to me
Well, many's the time I've travelled a hundred miles or more
But a comforter with a zipper fly, sure I never saw before
I came home on a Saturday night
As drunk as drunk could be
And I saw a head inside the bed
Where my old head should be
So, I called me wife and I said to her (Hey, Wife!)
Would you kindly tell to me
Who's head is that inside the bed
Where my old head should be
Well, you're drunk, you're drunk, you silly old fool
Still you cannot see
For that's the beautiful baby boy
That me mother sent to me
Well, many's the time I've travelled a hundred miles or more
But a baby boy with his whiskers, sure I never saw before
